Food Banks Canada is the national organization that represents the food bank community across Canada. Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life contributed $100,000 to Food Banks Canada in December 2008 for distribution to food banks across Canada and have provided long-term support to other Food Banks Canada initiatives including Winnipeg Harvest, Welcome Hall Mission in Montreal, and Second Harvest in Toronto among others.

Food Banks Canada hosted a donor recognition event on November 26 in Toronto. This statement appeared in the printed program for the recognition event.

Toronto, November 26, 2009 – As food banks continue to face growing demand, Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life are proud to assist Food Banks Canada, and many of its member organizations, in their mission to reduce hunger. Recognizing the impact of the economic downturn, we made a special financial contribution to food banks across the country in December 2008. This year, we also organized successful food drives in our major locations as part of National Hunger Awareness Day, and sponsored Food Banks Canada’s 2009 national conference, to help build expertise and capacity among its membership.
