Great-West Life contributes to Hospital Foundation’s Histology Campaign
Miramichi, November 23, 2009 - The Miramichi Regional Hospital Foundation’s campaign to obtain new equipment for the histology section of the lab department at Miramichi Hospital is closer to its fundraising goal thanks to a $20,000 contribution from Great-West Life.
A slide stainer and cover slipper will help staff prepare slides more efficiently with assured accuracy and consistency, providing patients with faster, more efficient and more effective services.
“As a leading provider of life and health insurance, we take special interest in supporting innovative programs that address the health and wellness concerns of Canadians,” said Blair Hayden, Regional Director, Great-West Life. “This contribution will help make a positive impact on healthcare in northern New Brunswick, and reflects a philosophy within Great-West Life that we can all help build stronger communities by working together.”
Local entrepreneurs Steve Myles and Ian Gerrish of Myles-Gerrish Financial Group, financial security advisors associated with The Resource Centre for Great-West Life in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, brought the Foundation’s campaign to Great-West Life’s attention. “We’re rooted in this community and saw the opportunity to help address a local healthcare need,” said Myles. “We’re pleased that Great-West Life has made this contribution in support of an important community cause.”
“This is Great-West Life’s second contribution within the past 2 years in support of a Miramichi Regional Hospital Foundation project,” said Russell Whitney, Hospital Foundation Chairperson. “We truly appreciate their contribution and the ongoing support of Myles-Gerrish Financial Group. This generous contribution brings us closer to achieving our campaign goal of $100,000.”
The contribution from Great-West Life is through the company’s national corporate citizenship program.
The histology section of Miramichi Hospital’s lab department is the first place where testing takes place for any patient biopsies, from moles to limbs. Early detection of cancer and other diseases is often the key to a cure.
