When faced with a critical illness, who can you turn to for emotional help? Could you, your spouse or children benefit from professional counselling to deal with the emotional side of a critical illness? What type of dietary changes are recommended? Where can you find quality homecare?

These are just a few of the questions the experts at Shepell•fgi can help with.

When a claim is submitted for one of the critical conditions covered under the Oasis™ or Child Oasis™ policy, Great-West will provide you with the contact number for Shepell•fgi, a professional counseling and support service.

For up to 1 year after diagnosis, the insured and the primary caregiver will have access to the following services:

• Professional counselling services – confidential support and help from skilled counsellors to assist with personal or emotional issues. Includes up to 12 sessions for the insured and immediate family members.
• Child and elder care resources – community resource referrals for any child care, elder care or parenting concerns one may face when dealing with a critical illness or condition.
• Legal and financial consultation – professional financial advice to help with daily budgeting given your changes in employment or financial situation, as well as general legal consultation on wills, trusts, estate planning or any related legal issues.
• Registered dieticians – information from registered dieticians to help answer questions you may have about changes to the diet that may be required as a result of the insured’s condition.
• Online information library – a convenient reference source for personal, family and healthy lifestyle information from a website loaded with resources, fact sheets, articles and links to information that may be of help to you and your family.
• Homecare resources – homecare referrals are available to assist should post-operative care or help with general home care be required.
• Smoking cessation – support and guidance through a smoking cessation program.
• Online stress management – an Internet-based, self-paced interactive program to help deal with the symptoms and management of stress.
