Built-In Plan Features – Boss Expense
With a host of standard features, you can be confident the Boss Expense plan affords quality protection to help cover expenses while you are disabled.
The Boss Expense plan reimburses eligible business expenses if you are totally disabled due to injury or sickness. We won’t modify or cancel your policy or raise the premium before you turn 65.
You choose when your monthly benefit begins after the date you become disabled—from 31, 61 or 91 days. You also select how long you would like to receive benefits if you remain disabled—6, 12, 18 or 24 months.
Boss Expense includes the following features:
- Carry forward – Your business may experience fluctuations in monthly expenditures while you are disabled. If your monthly expenses are lower than the benefit amount, you can carry forward the difference for use in future months when your expenses are higher than the benefit amount.
- Extended benefit period – We’ll extend your benefit period while you remain totally disabled if you haven’t received the maximum benefit allowed under your policy. The benefit period will not be extended beyond your 65th birthday.
- Cash flow – You may qualify for a two-month extension of benefits when you return to work full time in the occupation you had before you became disabled.
- Presumptive total disability – You are considered totally disabled if you suffer the total and irrevocable loss of: sight in both eyes; hearing in both ears; speech; the use of both hands or both feet; or the use of one hand and one foot. If you qualify for presumptive total disability, you don’t have to submit proof of expenses. We immediately pay your monthly benefit and waive your premium for the entire benefit period.
- Recurrent disability – Your monthly benefit may resume immediately if the same or a related disability recurs within a specified period.
- Waiver of premium – If you’ve been disabled for 90 days, we’ll refund the premium you’ve paid for this period and waive the premium while your disability continues.
- Transplant surgery – If you become disabled from a surgical procedure in which you are the donor of a body part transplanted to another person, you will be covered if your policy has been in force for 6 months.
- Survivorship – We’ll pay a lump-sum benefit to your estate if you die while receiving your monthly benefit.
