Built-In Plan Features – Protector
With a host of standard features, you can be confident the Protector plan affords quality protection to help alleviate financial stress caused by a disability.
The Protector plan provides you with a monthly income benefit while you are totally disabled due to injury or sickness. We won’t modify or cancel your policy or raise your premium before you turn age 65.
You choose when your monthly benefit begins after the date you become disabled—from 31, 61, 91, 121, 181, 366 or 731 days. You also select how long you would like to receive benefits if you remain disabled—24 months, 60 months, 120 months or to age 65.
The Protector plan includes the following features:
- Recurrent disability – Your monthly income benefit may resume immediately if the same or a related disability recurs within a specified period.
- Presumptive total disability – You are considered totally disabled if, before age 65, you suffer the total and irrevocable loss of: sight in both eyes; hearing in both ears; speech; the use of both hands or both feet; or the use of one hand and one foot. If you qualify for presumptive total disability, we immediately pay your monthly income benefit and waive your premium for the entire benefit period.
- Catastrophic total disability – You are considered totally disabled if, before age 65, you satisfy the Loss of Independent Existence definition, as contained in your policy. If you qualify for catastrophic total disability, we immediately pay your monthly income benefit and waive your premium for the entire benefit period.
- Waiver of premium – If you’ve been disabled for 90 days, we’ll refund the premium you’ve paid for this period and waive the premium while your disability continues.
- Rehabilitation program – To help you learn a new occupation while you are totally disabled, you may participate in a pre-approved vocational program. We cover pre-approved program expenses and you still receive your monthly income benefit while your total disability continues.
- Transplant surgery – If you become disabled from a surgical procedure in which you are the donor of a body part transplanted to another person, you will be covered if your policy has been in force for 6 months.
- Survivorship – We’ll pay a lump-sum benefit to your estate if you die while receiving your monthly income benefit.
You can customize your coverage with optional benefit riders. For more details about our Protector plan, see our At a Glance brochure or contact your financial security advisor.
