Included Services

No matter which plan you choose, Sonata Health includes several valuable features that can help you get the most out of your coverage.

Quick claims payment

At Great-West, we’re committed to ensuring you get your claim payments quickly—typically within just a few days of the time we receive your claim. You’ll receive your claim payment by mail, with an explanation of the payment made.

To make receiving your claim payments even easier, you can also sign up for direct deposit.

Assure Card®

Recognized by more than 7,500 pharmacies nationwide, the Assure Card makes using your prescription drug coverage easy. With Scales 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 or the Guaranteed Acceptance Plan (GAP), you simply present your Assure Card to your pharmacist when you purchase a prescription drug. Your pharmacist uses the card to confirm your eligibility and drug coverage and to apply any deductibles or coverage limits. You pay only for fees not covered by Sonata Health, and you receive a printed explanation of benefits.

If you live in Quebec, read the information for Quebec residents.

Direct deposit

You can have your Sonata Health claim payments automatically deposited to your bank account, free of charge.

Direct deposit is convenient, safe and secure. There are no delays receiving your cheques because of mail disruptions, no chance your cheques will be lost or stolen, and no need to deposit your cheques in person.

We will deposit your claim payment cheques directly into your account with any credit union, trust company or bank in Canada, and will send you an explanation of benefits statement indicating when your cheque was deposited.

If you have a Sonata Health plan, go to the Client Services section to find the form you need to sign up for direct deposit.

PVS

The PVS visioncare and hearing aid program provides a discount on quality eyewear and hearing aids as an added feature of your Sonata Health plan. Most PVS locations also apply the discount to non-prescription eyewear, accessories and laser eye surgery.

  • For a list of practitioners affiliated with PVS, visit the PVS website or call the PVS information centre toll free at 1-800-668-6444.
  • When you visit the practitioner and before you make your purchase, identify your PVS program member status by presenting your Sonata Health ID.
  • Some providers do not offer a discount on contact lenses. In some cases you cannot combine the PVS discount with a promotional discount that the practitioner is offering. Check with your practitioner before making your purchase.
  • You are not limited to making a purchase through a PVS provider. You can go to the provider of your choice.

If your plan provides coverage for visioncare or hearing aids, submit your claim as usual.

PVS does not impact the practitioner’s clinical role or professional judgment.

Best Doctors®

Having the best medical knowledge for any important healthcare decision can make a critical, even lifesaving, difference.

Best Doctors allows you and your physician to consult with the best specialists worldwide to ensure that the diagnosis is correct and the best treatment options are being considered. Over 50,000 specialists make up the Best Doctors network.

Most common conditions are covered, so if you’ve been diagnosed with or suspect a serious illness, call Best Doctors. Where applicable, they will assign a personal nurse advocate to your case, who will help gather all relevant medical information and provide support and guidance throughout the process. The Best Doctors team of world-class experts will perform an exhaustive analysis of your medical information and tests, and will re-test all pathology specimens. Best Doctors will provide you with specific diagnosis and treatment options, involving you and your treating physician in a unique collaborative effort that may help improve recovery time and outcomes, extend life expectancy, or reduce invasive procedures.

Travel medical card

The travel medical card is a convenient wallet card you will receive if you choose the Emergency Travel Medical Benefit option with your Sonata Health plan, or if you have the Guaranteed Acceptance Plan (GAP).

The card makes it easy for you to access medical services, supplies and assistance in case of a medical emergency, if you’re travelling outside of Canada and are faced with a medical emergency.
